| REFLECTION | ||
| Isaiah proclaims a salvation for not only the Jews but everyone else. They will be attracted by the light of his glory. The three Magi, representing these Gentiles, the non-Jews, will be the first, who are not Jews but Gentiles, to glorify the Christ Child. The lowly Shepherds who had adored Jesus, were Jews but the least valued of that race. Paul boldly proclaims that history’s long-awaited climax is at hand. Indeed, the whole host of angels over Bethlehem had indicated God’s intense interest was fixed on the Birth of Jesus. Matthew describes how Herod, the King of the Jews, blindly sets out to destroy Christ whom he perceives as a threat to his rule. However, the Wise Men from the East fully recognise the Holy Child for whom He really is, the bringer of Justice and Peace to a broken world. They are set on seeking Him out, no matter the difficulties, in order to adore Him. They trust the dream sent by God and return home by a different route. Have you ever been so focused, so set on achieving something that you put your whole effort into doing so? Was that inspired by the Holy Spirit, or just some earthly goal? What would you do now, instead? | ||

THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD – THE MANIFESTATION OF GOD IN HIS BLESSED SON, JESUS CHRIST. The Magi, travelling far, guided by a star which they recognised had great significance, carefully sought out the great work of God which it pointed to. As fitting they brought with them carefully guarded gifts each of which were deeply symbolic in that era. Frankincense – recognising the Christ Child as being truly God. Gold – due to all kings, and more so to the King of Kings. Myrrh – for the burial of He who was fated to die for us all.

Until 22 January 2024, donations will be matched (by a group of generous donors), up to a total of £1M. So, £19.15 will now be able to feed two children for a school year, instead of just one child.

A short letter from Archbishop William will introduce the activities of the Justice & Peace Commission, praising the commitment of those who work for Justice & Peace. A fuller report has been provided as are suggested Bidding Prayers for that Sunday. A collection is to be taken up on that date and sent to the diocesan treasurer.
