| Malachi (‘My Messenger’) tries to encourage the religious leaders of his time, to take their duties seriously and start leading their flock, and get on with rebuilding of the temple. Paul writes his earliest letter to the Thessalonians stressing his focus on caring for the churches which he has already founded. He is not slack in his duties, like those priests whom Malachi tells off. Jesus took on the scribes and Pharisees using their own, traditional Jewish, means of settling arguments about how to obey the many, many laws (and legal decisions). The details, which they insisted on, were not at the heart of the Law. He told them, but this only made them want to persecute Him even more. They could not beat Him in argument, and they knew it, but they wanted to be in charge, not the servants of the common people so they stepped up their opposition to Jesus. How do we respond when a rule gets in the way of doing the right thing, especially in caring for and protecting the vulnerable? How would we feel if someone suggested that we were getting too big for our boots? | ||

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR JOSEPHINE BONNER. Her body will be received at 6:00 pm on Monday 13th November, with the requiem mass being celebrated at 09:30 am on Tuesday 14th November 2023, before the committal at Daldowie Crematorium.

MASS FOR DECEASED CLERGY
Archbishop Nolan will celebrate the 1:00 pm Mass in the Cathedral on Wednesday 8th November, on the first anniversary of the death of Archbishop Conti. The mass will also remember all the other clergy who have died over the past year.
