| REFLECTION |
| The prophet Elisha is treated well by the lady of Shunem, and wishes to do something for her. Elisha’s servant mentions that the woman is childless, and her husband old, leading Elisha to prophesy that she will hold a son in her arms the next year. Paul claims that we all benefit from our Saviour’s death and resurrection, that indeed Christ’s risen life becomes my risen life, Christ’s body becomes my body. We are bonded together as splinted bone, stronger than the original. Matthew warns that Christianity is not something to take up without some serious thought, for it is both challenging and rewarding. Christ must be uppermost in our priorities as we spread the Good News. Those who welcome his messengers, and see to their needs, are promised rewards. Even the giving of a cup of water, in simple hospitality will be richly rewarded. How seriously do you take the challenges of following Christ and spreading His word to others? How do you respond to the simple needs of those you come across, even when you are busy? |

2023 DIOCESAN MARRIAGE PREPARATION DAYS The next preparation day for those approaching matrimony will be held in the autumn on Saturday 16th September 2023. Its location is still to be determined.
MARY’S MEALS – IN JULY – PRAY FOR HAITI. Prayers are requested, please, for Mary’s Meals, and God’s continued blessings on their work, especially in Haiti, in the Caribbean. Unrest and continual gang conflict, combined with reckless kidnapping have forced many to flee the capital, Port-au-Prince. As a result, countryside school enrolments continue to grow. Partners and volunteers strive to keep safe, while delivering meals to the 206,697 children who depend on Mary’s Meals. Children are enabled to enjoy a peaceful education away from the world outside their front door.

THE LISTENING HEART IN THE EAST END? A wee reminder that the Sisters of Charity have opened a Drop-In Centre, housed in a property opposite St Michael’s Parkhead, on the Gallowgate. Called ‘Listening Heart’. The Centre is open every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10:30am – 2:30pm. Please feel free to Step in and have a Cuppa and a Chat.

Peter’s Pence is the name given to the financial support offered by the faithful to the Holy Father as a sign of their sharing in the concern of the Successor of Peter for the many different needs of the Universal Church and for the relief of those most in need.
Pope Benedict XVI, very early in his Pontificate, stressed the proper meaning of this annual appeal: Charity of love and giving of oneself to others is the blessed consequence of the Holy Spirit giving us a heart which sees. For this blessed heart sees where love is needed and acts accordingly. Papal Encyclical Deus Caritas Est (2005)
SEA SUNDAY APPEAL WILL BE HELD NEXT SUNDAY
Seafarers and fishers play a vital role in all our lives, but they often work in difficult, hazardous conditions. In the last year, more crews have been abandoned by their employers than ever before. Many are still being denied the right to leave their ships for even a short break away from the relentless noise and pressure onboard. Many are reporting more stress and poorer mental health. Sea Sunday is Sunday 9th July. It is when the Church prays for all those who live and work at sea. Your support will make a big difference to seafarers and fishers in need.
