| REFLECTION | ||
| When Isaiah records this act of Cyrus, he saw him as God’s envoy. The inference, as the Exile came to a close, was that the God of the Jews was the God of the whole world, and that meant all peoples. Paul’s earliest letter was to the Thessalonians. In it he starts off with praise for the community, assuring them that they are always in his prayers. Paul never fails to look for the best in people and here he affirms that their efforts, aided by the Holy Spirit , are indeed recognised. Matthew relates how the over confident Pharisees thought that they had trapped Jesus. Instead he looks beyond the question to their intentions, and outwits the. However, at a deeper level He is challenging us too, as to where our loyalties actually lie – Respect? Comfort? Power? A good holiday? being given by Jesus in this parable. How would we respond, truthfully, to Jesus’ challenge? The truth can be uncomfortable, but liberating. How do we judge what is rightfully due to our Creator God, who loves us abundantly? | ||
