John the Baptist is reassured that he has correctly identified Jesus as the Messiah.

Reading 1: Isaiah 35:1-6, 10
Isaiah describes the shoot springing from the stock of Jesse, that is Jesus. Only Jesus can give the assurance of forgiveness, calm our conflicts and show us God’s concern for each of us.
Psalm (145) My Soul give praise to the Lord.
Reading 2: James 5:7-10
St Paul asks his readers to imitate Christ’s generosity, his unconditional love of us.

Gospel: Matthew 11:2-11
The followers of John the Baptist are asked to be witnesses to the kingdom of God now being displayed in the works of Jesus. Reflect: Can we too give witness to Jesus’ healing work?

ADVENT THOUGHT
Today is Gaudete Sunday, the third Sunday of Advent, cycle A. Father Francis will light the pink Advent Candle, as an invitation to Rejoice at God’s transforming work in our weary world. As we journey together as a parish, may we do so with shared courage for we faithfully await our journey continuing into His Light. Jesus is our Light in the Darkness.

CAROLS FOR PEACE (TODAY, Dec 11th, 3:00 pm)
Hosted by the Lord Provost, within Glasgow City Chambers, George Square, by Glasgow City Council and Glasgow Churches Together. Glasgow has been twinned with Bethlehem for some years and prayers will be offered for their needs. A simultaneous streamed service will be held in both Glasgow and Bethlehem. You are all invited to enjoy this ably supported event. Refreshments follow.
FireCloud Nativity 2022: ’To Bind up the Broken Hearts’ (Dec 18th, 7:00 pm) Come and see the Christmas story brought to life in music, drama and light. Sunday 18th December, 7pm (Doors open 6.30pm) in St. Margaret’s Church, Clydebank, G81 1AE. Donations welcome at the door. Mulled wine and mince pies in the hall afterwards.

JUSTICE AND PEACE GROUP
On behalf of the parish, the Justice and Peace Group has sent Christmas Cards to 18 victims of torture in Bahrain (8), Cuba (2), Eritrea (1), Iran (1), Myanmar (1), Pakistan (1) and China (4); and to two British Voluntary Organisations who work for the protection of asylum seekers and their integration into society (Bristol) and for minority ethnic women escaping domestic violence (Glasgow). The J&P Group will post these stories on the J&P notice board this coming week, so that we can pray for the people and for peace and justice in our world.
