The end of life will be a day of sorrow for those who do not live lives of goodness, but a day of healing and joy for those who do.

Reading 2: 2 Thessalonians 3:7–12
Paul is reminding the Thessalonians of the importance of earning their living by honest work, where this is possible.
Gospel Acc: Stay awake, praying at all times for the strength to stand with confidence before the Son of Man.
Gospel : Lk 21: 5-19
Luke describes the upheavals experienced by the early Church: false prophets, famine, religious persecution and war – all familiar to succeeding generations. In the midst of such, Jesus advises fidelity to goodness and prayer.

Sadly, Archbishop Mario Conti died on Tuesday, Nov 8th. His remains will be received into St Andrew’s Cathedral on Thursday, Nov 17th at 7:00 pm. His Requiem Mass will be on Friday, Nov 18th at 12 noon.
SCOTTISH INTERFAITH WEEK, Nov 13th – 20th
Since the Second Vatican Council, all Popes have led the way in recognising God’s revelation in other faith traditions, and in dialoguing with the leaders of these faiths. This relationship of mutual respect, dialogue and collaboration is so important for world peace. And so the Bishops encourage us to take some time this week to pray that people of faith might work together for peace in our world and in our country. Let us do our bit by doing what the Bishops ask.

THE POPE’S WORLDWIDE PRAYER NETWORK
For the past 175 years Popes have encouraged all Catholics to be engaged in the mission of the Church through prayer. The Holy Father chooses a different intention each month and asks us to pray for that throughout the month. And so we become prayer missionaries, as we support with prayer those working in the field. We become like St Thérèse of Lisieux, who is the Patron Saint of the Missions, even though she never left her convent in France. But she prayed for missionaries every day.
The intention for November is on the front page, superimposed on the logo for the Worldwide Network of Prayer. Let’s join this network of prayer missionaries and make our contribution to the mission of the church.
MASS FOR THE SICK
Mass for the sick members of our parish will take place on Saturday, November 26th.
PRAYER FOR PEACE: We continue to pray for peace, particularly between Russia and Ukraine; and that we may become people of peace and peace-makers in our own situations.
PARISH ADVENT APPEAL: ST JOSEPH’S and ST JOACHIM’S FOODBANK:
Please donate what you can. The following are needed: toilet rolls, non-perishable food items (cereals, Weetabix, tinned potatoes, macaroni, spaghetti, minced beef and onion), long-life milk. Baskets will be at the back of the Church from Nov 27th.
LITTLE CHRISTMAS for the HOMELESS (Dec 4th) Warm hats, gloves and scarves will be welcome. Baskets will be at the back of the Church on Dec 4th.
SAINT of THE WEEK: MARGARET, QUEEN OF SCOTLAND (1045-1093)
Margaret was born in Hungary to an exiled English royal family. They returned to England, but moved to Scotland for safety. Margaret married King Malcolm II at Dunfermline: they had eight children. She was noted for her generosity to the poor, and was recognised for her exemplary life as a wife and mother. She worked to bring the old Celtic Church into the mainstream of the Church in Europe.
