Under persecution, a Jewish family accepts death, because they believe in the resurrection.

Reading 2: 2 Thessalonians 2:16 – 3:5
St Paul prays that the Thessalonians will be so filled with hope in the resurrection that they will remain true to the way of Jesus and will not be derailed by the evil influences around them.
Gospel Acc: Jesus Christ is the first-born from the dead; to him be glory and power for ever and ever.
Gospel : Lk 20: 27-38
Jesus states that there is no death in the life of the resurrection, and so people will not need in heaven the securities provided by marriage and children here on earth.

PARISH
CIRCLE OF FRIENDS for parents and children preparing for the Sacrament of Reconciliation begins on Wednesday, November 9th, at 6:30 pm in the Church. There will be three further sessions on Nov 16th, 23rd and 30th. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be celebrated on Saturday, December 3rd.
MASS FOR THE SICK for the sick members of our parish will take place on Saturday, November 26th.
PRAYER FOR PEACE: We continue to pray for peace, particularly between Russia and Ukraine; and we pray that we may become peace-makers in our own situations.
JUSTICE AND PEACE GROUP
The Justice and Peace Group met on Wednesday evening and considered the Parish Advent Project, Little Christmas for the Homeless, and Recycling.
Parish Advent Appeal: Given the cost of living crisis we thought that the most appropriate action this year would be to support St Joseph’s and St Joachim’s Food Bank. They are delighted and would appreciate toilet rolls; non-perishable food items, (particularly cereals, including Weetabix; tins of potatoes, macaroni, spaghetti, and minced beef and onion; long-life milk).
Little Christmas for the Homeless: we will have a collection of warm hats, gloves and scarves on December 4th.
Baskets will be at the back of the Church.
Recycling: Mary’s Meals no longer comes to the parish to collect second hand items and rags, so we made some enquiries, with a view to keeping as much as possible out of landfill.
- The Mary’s Meals shops (e.g. in Duke St) still receive all that we used to give when they came to the parish, including rags!
- Barnardo’s and the Salvation Army receive small electrical items. Barnardo’s has these tested, repaired if necessary, and then PAT tested.
- The British Heart Foundation will collect larger items, like furniture.
- Oxfam will collect books
- The Accord Hospice in Paisley will collect furniture and large donations. You can book a collection online

At some point in 2023, Scotland will reintroduce the deposit, return and reclaim scheme on plastic and glass bottles and aluminium cans. This is an excellent way to reduce landfill.

MARY’S MEALS: DOUBLE THE LOVE APPEAL
Until January 31st 2023, donations to Mary’s Meals, up to a total of £1.5 million, will be doubled by the Government. If anyone wishes to donate to Mary’s Meals, now is the time to do so.
