GOD’S WORD FOR US TODAY
Reading 1: 2 Sam 5: 1-3
David is a Shepherd-King, bound to his people by a covenant. He anticipated Jesus who died as a Shepherd-King because he brought people God’s forgiveness. The good thief recognises this.
Psalm (121) Response: City of peace, home of the peoples, calling the nations to God.
Reading 2: Colossians 1: 12-20
This is a hymn in praise of Jesus for all that he did for humanity and the whole of creation.
Gospel Acc: Blessings on him who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessings on the coming kingdom of our father David!
Gospel : Lk 23: 5-35-43
The Gospel describes people mocking the idea of Jesus being a king, given that he is being crucified. But the good thief recognises Jesus’ goodness and asks Jesus to remember him in paradise. Jesus assures him. This is what his kingship is about – saving people!

BLESSING OF THE CRIB (Wed, Nov 30th, 6:15 pm)
Venue: George Square. Music at 6:15. Blessing of the crib at 6:30 pm, led by Archbishop Nolan. The Lord Provost will be present, and a Primary School Choir. Sadly, the Circle of Friends children will not be able to go, since their final meeting is that evening. Please see the poster in the porch.
CATHOLIC EDUCATION WEEK (Nov 20-27)
The theme of Catholic Education Week this year is the same as Pope Francis’ theme for the whole Church: Communion, Participation and Mission. We pray in gratitude for our schools as they help children become confident, mature and well-rounded individuals, who are aware of Gospel values and try to live these wherever they may be. As a parish we welcome the collaboration of school, parents and parish.

ADVENT AND A NEW LITURGICAL YEAR
NEXT SUNDAY is the first Sunday of Advent, the beginning of a new liturgical Year. The Sunday Gospels in ordinary time will be from St Matthew’s Gospel.
ADVENT is a time of expectant hope, when we look forward to celebrating the birth of the Prince of Peace, and to the second coming of Christ at the end of time. But hope is not simply a feeling, a desire or a thought: it is something that we do. So, as we look forward to the forgiveness, peace and justice that God gave us in Jesus, and that are still needed in many parts of our world, we try to be those gifts to people during Advent as we prepare for Christmas and as we look forward to the end of time.

RECONCILIATION: A PARISH CELEBRATION
DURING ADVENT we normally have a parish penance service, a celebration of the sacrament of reconciliation together. This year it will be slightly different.
The children preparing for the sacrament of reconciliation will celebrate the sacrament on Saturday, December 3rd, 10:30 am – 12:00 noon. We wish to support them as a parish by having our parish celebration with them. And so, we encourage ALL children who are preparing for the sacraments this year, together with their families and our parishioners, to come together for this Advent parish celebration. It will begin with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and close with a blessing and a hymn. People may arrive and leave when they wish, but there will be refreshments in the hall throughout for those who wish to stay to the end. Further information will follow.
