THE FIFTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME (YEAR A) (p.502)
5th FEBRUARY 2023 – SUNDAY OF THE WORD OF GOD
Keep your family safe, O Lord, with unfailing care, that relying solely on the hope of heavenly grace, they may always be defended by your protection. Amen.
| R 1 | Isaiah 58:7-10 | Then will your light shine like the dawn |
| Psalm | 26 | The Lord is my light and my help. |
| R 2 | 1 Corinthians 2:1-5 | The only knowledge I claimed was of the crucified Christ |
Acclaim | The Gospel | Alleluia, alleluia! … “I am the light of the world,” says the Lord. “Anyone who follows me will have the light of life.” … Alleluia! |
| Gospel | Matthew 5:13-16 | How happy are the poor in spirit |
Reflect: Following the teaching of the Beatitudes Jesus set out to challenge not just His apostles but also His disciples. All His followers. We are to be salt of the earth and light for the world. Not literally of course. However, we are asked to share the light and salt of Christ’s message, to all who have ears to hear and eyes to see. How we can we present to the world a pleasing flavour and the light of joy?
