PRIESTLY COVER AFTER FATHER FRANCIS’ DEPARTURE – The Archbishop has appointed Father Frank Balmer, the parish priest of St Paul’s Church, Shettleston, as administrator of St Jude and St John Ogilvie Parish once Father Francis leaves. Father John Gannon, Parish Priest of St Philomena Church will be administrator of St Maria Goretti Church. We wish both priests well in their new roles.
As from Monday 6th April 2026 Father Frank Balmer will take over as Priest Administrator of St Jude and St John Ogilvie Parish – he will be supported by his brother priest Fr Innocent Simon. Father Frank and Father Innocent do not drive and have asked his parishioners at St Paul’s Shettleston if they can organise a pool of drivers to allow them to travel to our church. Fr Frank is requesting that drivers from our church can volunteer to return the priest to St Paul’s following our masses. If you can assist please speak to Father Francis or Father Frank when he takes over.
Our church will no longer have mass on Saturday morning it is planned that the masses on Tuesday and Thursday morning will continue at 9.30am. Sunday mass will remain at 10am. Other changes may be introduced in the future.
Saint Maria Goretto will be administrated by Father John Gannon of St Philomena’s Church. St Maria Goretti will no longer have a Saturday vigil. Other changes may have to take place.
RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). Please keep in prayer our Catechumen who will be baptised, confirmed and receive Holy Eucharist for the first time at the Easter Vigil here in our church of St Jude and St John Ogilvie on 4th April 2026 at 8pm.
MAUNDY THURSDAY – 3rd April 2026 – The mass of the Last Supper will take place on Thursday this week and there is a list at the back of the church for people to sign up to have their feet washed by Fr. Francis. The washing of feet is a ritual performed during this mass that commemorates Jesus washing disciples’ feet before the Last Supper.
MASSES THIS WEEK – Please note that there will be no morning mass on Thursday as all priests attend the Mass of the Chrism on this day. There is no mass on Holy Saturday morning
MORNING PRAYER – Will take place on Friday and Saturday morning at 9.30am
JUSTICE AND PEACE – Lent Campaign
A few of us from Justice and Peace Group visited the Halliday Centre to deliver our parish donations. We were very warmly welcomed and heartily thanked for the bags of donations we delivered. They asked us to let everyone know what they offer at their Centre in Whitevale Street so we’ve posted a weekly timetable on the board at the back of the church if anyone is interested.
They host a free three course meal in their centre every Friday and asked us to publicise that they also host one here in the Barlanark Community centre every second Thursday giving those who need it or want it an opportunity to meet people, socialise in a warm place, share food and share community. I think there’s also entertainment laid on!
They also run a Houses to Homes project helping people set up home for a first time, so they welcome donations of household goods, furniture, bedding, cutlery, crockery etc. This is good to know for anyone who is clearing out or replacing pieces of furniture, household goods etc.
We’ll continue collecting food, toiletries (which they are particularly short of) and any other donations you’d like to make until the end of lent.

If you are a taxpayer, you might want to consider using the donation envelopes and signing up for Gift Aid which allows the church to reclaim tax on your donations. If you Gift Aid your collection, we can claim back from the government 25p for every £1 you donate. Any persons who want to sign up should speak to Father Francis to complete the appropriate form which is basically just your name address and NI number.
