Mass of Thanksgiving for Confirmation. 17th DECEMBER 2023 – (vol.1, p.48) John the Baptist made it clear that he was there to point out the Messiah, not for himself.
He did what he did in order that others would believe in and follow Jesus.

| Isaiah earlier told how God promised the Sevenfold Spirit (associated with Confirmation). Now the Spirit has been given to his Chosen One. All is fulfilled in Jesus. Paul talking to the church in Thessaly looks forward to Christ’s coming at the end of the world and our new life in God Himself. We await his coming at Christmas. John records John the Baptist replying to questions of who the Baptist is, by stating clearly who he is not. Then he claims to be that voice crying in the wilderness proclaimed by Isaiah. As we await Christ’s coming at Christmas, how clear are we about what we expect of His coming? Just as important, what do we think Christ expects of us in order to be ready for His coming? | ||

LET US REJOICE ALONG WITH OUR ‘CONFIRMANDI’.
Today’s mass celebrates those girls and boys who received the Sacrament of Confirmation from the Archbishop this October, within St Thomas’, Riddrie. As invited our First Communicants back, now we invite our children to celebrate, in their own parish, their new, full membership in the Church. They have taken a giant step in their Christian Life. CONGRATULATIONS, FELLOW CHURCH MEMBERS!

DONATIONS TO THE PARISH ARE NOW POSSIBLE, BY QR CODE, USING YOUR PHONE. Gift Aid from taxpayers lets the parish reclaim from the tax authorities, an extra 25p for every £1 donated.
CAROLS FOR PEACE – CITY CHAMBERS: Hosted by the Lord Provost’s office, this will take place this afternoon, at 3:00 pm in Glasgow City Chambers, George Square. Doors open at 2:30 pm. The Lord Provost, civic leaders, Glasgow Churches Together host the St Mungo’s Singers, Ukrainian Singers, the Salvation Army Band, South Side Fiddlers, St Denis’ Primary School, piper, harpist, and a music ensemble. There will be prayers for peace throughout the world and especially for Bethlehem, Glasgow’s twin city. Refreshments afterwards, all welcome. There will be a collection for the Lord Provost’s Fund for Children.

MARY’S MEALS; “DOUBLE THE LOVE INITIATIVE”. Your prayers are powerful and now your donations are doubled too. In the campaign ‘Double the Love is Here’. Until 22 January 2024, donations will be matched (by a group of generous donors), up to a total of £1M. All proceeds to go towards the roof and church social activities. Draw is after mass next Sunday, the 24th.
It is planned to establish a St Jude’s club, (similar to the old 200 or 100 club), but Pay-As-You-Go: £1 per entry paid before Mass. As many entries as you wish. At the end of Mass the lucky name will be drawn. The winner gets 50% of the funds raised that morning. The rest will go towards the church social fund. More good ideas are very welcome.
