Third Sunday of Lent, Year B – Violet

| R 1 | Chronicles 36::14-16, 19-23 | God’s wrath and mercy are revealed in the exile and release of his people. |
| Psalm | 136 | By the waters we sat down and wept. |
| R 2 | Ephesians 2:4-10 | You have been saved through grace. |
| Alleluia | Acclaim the Gospel | Praise to you, O Christ .. God loved the world so much that He gave His Only Son, that all who Believe in Him may have Eternal Life. |
| Gospel | John 3:14-21 | God sent his Son so that through him the world might be saved. |
| REFLECTION | ||
| First readings during Lent record the sad failures and infidelity of Israel, sent home from exile only as refugees in their own land, longing for a Temple to provide a place for God’s holy presence. Knowing of the miracle of the Incarnation, Paul is led to clearly define Grace as an undeserved gift, where God smiles on his children,in the salvation won for us by Jesus. John reflects that Jesus does not judge us, but that we judge ourselves by our reaction to him. Do we accept and cooperate in this Salvation, walking in the Light, or do we struggle, setting ourselves up as Gods, and embrace the false promises of the Dark. Have you ever been deeply aware of consciously turning to Jesus, eagerly following His footsteps? Maybe your life story is rather one of hiding like Adam and Eve from the presence of God, like ill, injured, refugees hide afraid of aid agencies. ach the Light, turn you back on the light, without His aid? Ask Him. | ||
