GOD’S WORD FOR US TODAY
Reading 1: 1 Sam 26: 2,7-9,12-13,22-23 (David refuses to kill his persecutor)
David, as a soldier, was in a position to kill Saul who was persecuting him, but he refused to take a life. David made a God-like choice, which is what Jesus encourages in the Gospel.
Resp to Psalm (102): The love of the Lord, the everlasting love, blesses us all.
Reading 2: 1 Cor 15: 45-49 (Though earthly by nature, we also share Jesus’ heavenly nature )
Paul encourages us to be aware of our heavenly nature and to allow that to shape the direction of our lives.
Gospel Acc: Alleluia, alleluia! Open our hearts, O Lord, to accept the words of your Son. Alleluia . . . .
Gospel : Lk 6: 27-38 (Be compassionate as your Father is compassionate)
Like God, his Father, Jesus loves saint and sinner, knowing that love is the only thing that helps people change. He gives examples of choices which we face in life, and invites us to respond with love. Reflect: Which of these choices speak to you? Can you imagine yourself responding as Jesus suggests?

Chair of Saint Peter: This feast draws our attention to the important teaching role of the Holy Father, Pope Francis. It invites us to pray for the Pope in his capacity as teacher of the whole Church and for ourselves that we may listen to what he teaches.
ARCHDIOCESE
INSTALLATION of ARCHBISHOP ELECT NOLAN:
This will take place on Saturday 26th February at 12:00 noon in St. Andrew’s Cathedral. Parishes may send two representatives. Please pray for the Archbishop and all in the Archdiocese as we begin a new journey together.
SUNDAY OBLIGATION
This will be restored on the First Sunday of Lent, March 6th. This does not apply to the sick or their carers, nor to those who are more vulnerable to the virus.
COVID RESTRICTIONS UPDATE:
Holy Water may now be used as parishioners enter and leave church. Hands should be sanitised beforehand.
PARISH
VERY WARM WELCOME hometo Fr. Francis. We hope that the warmth of our welcome will compensate for our winter weather!
CHILDREN and the LITURGY:
We ask parents to bring their children’s Mass Booklets to Mass, and to help the children use them, so that they become familiar with the structure and prayers of the Mass.
The Piety Stall now has LENT BOOKS for children at £1.00 each. They will help the children deepen their understanding of Lent, and are useful for parents to work through with their children and for older children to use with younger children.
CIRCLE of FRIENDS:
Those children being prepared for the Sacrament of Reconciliation begin their Circle of Friends meetings this Thursday, February 24th. They will meet each Thursday for four weeks, and celebrate the Sacrament on March 19th and 26th. Please remember the children and their families in your prayers.

Please do not park on the pavement. There have been several telephone complaints about this.
THE SICK AND DECEASED:
We pray for our sick and housebound parishioners, relatives and friends, and we remember those who have died recently, particularly John Monteith, Agnes McMahon and Patrick Lawson; and those whose anniversaries occur at this time, especially Eddie Deighan, Kathleen Butler and Bernard Woods. May God grant them eternal rest.
DEANERY
SYNOD MEETING:
Following the information already given (January 30th), meetings will take place in parish groupings to allow us to reflect together on our experience of Church and our dreams for the Church. The themes we will reflect on are Living in Communion, Participation and Mission. The meeting for our parish and St. Maria Goretti’s is scheduled for 7:00 pm in St. Maria Goretti’s on Tuesday, March 15th.
Pope Francis wishes to hear from every single member of the Church, and so it is important that as many people as possible should try to attend. If you can’t attend in your own parish, then you will be welcome to join another parish. Parish summaries will become part of a deanery statement, and then of a diocesan statement. These will be sent to the meeting of the Synod of Bishops in Rome. This is a golden opportunity for us to help reshape our Church to meet the needs of the contemporary world.

WORLD DAY of PRAYER for PEACE and JUSTICE
This will take place on Friday, March 4th, at 2:00 pm in Causeway Church, 1134 Tollcross Road. All welcome.

LENTEN RETREAT
The Ignatian Spirituality Centre is providing books for anyone who would like to make a retreat, based on the life of St. Ignatius of Loyola, during Lent. Books provide prayer material for each day of Lent. It is possible to make the retreat on your own or with a group with whom you would meet once a week.
