16th Sunday of Ordinary Time (YEAR A) Green
23rd JULY 2023 – (vol.1, p.679) Jesus, our Sower and Saviour, is also tending our field, present in our world. He nourishes us so that we may bear fruit despite the hordes of weeds which surround us.

| R 1 | Wisdom 12:13, 16-19 | You will grant repentance after sin. |
| Psalm | 85 | O Lord, you are good and forgiving. |
| R 2 | Romans 8:26-27 | The Spirit himself expresses our plea in a way that could never be put into words. |
| Alleluia | Acclaim the Gospel | Alleluia, alleluia! Blessed are you, Father, Lord of Heaven and earth, for revealing the mysteries of the kingdom to mere children. Alleluia! |
| Gospel | Matthew 13:24-43 | Let them both grow till the harvest. |
| REFLECTION |
| Wisdom emphasises the leniency of God. Leniency towards us sinners, is God’s strength and to our eternal advantage. Even the deeply wicked have an equal chance of repenting, even to the last. Paul recommends us to pray for what we need. He goes on to assure us that even if our words are totally inadequate, our prayer will be strengthened mightily, for us, by the Holy Spirit. We should remember that the Holy Spirit asks the Father, for what is best for us and for those whom we care for. In the Gospel, Matthew is concerned to warn the wicked to change their ways or there will be weeping and grinding of teeth. How do we receive the call for repentance? Do we think we do not need it? How do we respond to His helping hand when we fall far short of what we can do? |

For a Eucharistic Life:
We pray that Catholics place the celebration of the Eucharist at the heart of their lives, transforming human relationships in a very deep way and opening to an encounter with God and all their brothers and sisters.
We remember all those who have died recently:
Alfred Abu, Tophas Kitibenga, Ella Lochran and all those whose anniversaries occur at this time, including John Cairney.
