| REFLECTION |
| Solomon is well aware of his own inexperience, what skills of leadership he lacks, and will definitely need. So he asks for those skills, for wisdom itself. God grants him what he needs to be king, but lavishes him with wealth to go alongside it. Paul is really excited about God’s chosen ones (us) being moulded into the very image of God’s Son, Christ Our Saviour. Forming one body in Christ we have the privilege and duty of serving and helping our fellows. We are given these gifts from God to use for ourselves and others, not for hoarding in a display cabinet or a vault. Matthew describes the Kingdom as an unexpected treasure, exciting, energising but equally demanding of the buyer. To those who listen to the Spirit, tried and tested ways are set before us, but in addition we will find new understanding, new opportunities to serve God and our sisters and brothers. How do we understand the messages set out in the Gospels? Do the rich treasures, displayed in God’s stall, kindle in us joy and thankfulness? How do we respond to His invitation, an invitation which will surely change our entire life for the better? |
