Paul will undergo anything so that people may hear the Good News of God’s faithful love, and he calls us to be faithful to God as an expression of gratitude.

Gospel : Lk 17: 5-10
Jesus heals ten lepers and only one – a Samaritan – returns to thank him. Reflect: How grateful am I as a person? Am I aware of the many gifts I have been given and receive each day? Perhaps this week, just before going to sleep, we could take a moment to recall these gifts (food, shelter, clothing, family, friends, acts of kindness, etc) and say a simple Thank You to God.

ARCHDIOCESE
ARCHBISHOP NOLAN RECEIVES THE PALLIUM
Archbishop Nolan will receive his pallium from the Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Gugerotti, during Mass in St Andrew’s Cathedral on Saturday, Oct 22nd at 12 noon. The pallium is the symbol of an archbishop’s office. It is a gift from the Holy Father and has already been blessed by him. All are invited to attend.
WORLD YOUTH DAY 2023
The Archdiocesan Youth Office will lead a pilgrimage to Lisbon for World Youth Day 2023. This is an opportunity to follow a programme of events with young Catholics from around the world and with Pope Francis. It is open to 16-35 year olds (16 as of Feb 2nd 2023).
Provisional dates: 30th July – 8th Aug 2023.

OCTOBER, THE MONTH OF THE ROSARY
By tradition the Catholic Church dedicates certain months to particular devotions. October is dedicated to the Rosary, and people are encouraged to say the Rosary during this month, particularly on October 7th, which is the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. Let’s try to pray the rosary this month, and to pray it for peace in the world, particularly between Russia and Ukraine.

FEAST OF ST JUDE, OCTOBER 28TH
The feast of St Jude is celebrated in the Church on October 28th. Since this is a Friday, the parish will celebrate the feast after the Sunday Mass on October 30th. There will be special refreshments in the Hall after Mass, together with a tombola raffle, and a lucky dip for children. We are asking parishioners to donate gifts for the tombola and to place them in the baskets which will be at the back of the Church from next Sunday. They may also be given to Margaret McElroy. Thank you! Let’s make an effort to celebrate one of the patron saints of our parish.
SEASON OF CREATION
Annual collection of fruit, vegetables and pulses to make soup for the homeless takes place TODAY. Baskets are at the back of the Church. Thank you.

We continue to pray for peace between Russia and Ukraine, and that we may become people of peace.

If you can afford an hour of your time on a Thursday morning, your help will be greatly appreciated to help keep our Church clean and tidy. With enough help this can be done in around an hour, starting after Mass. Thank you!

ST ANDREW’S SECONDARY SCHOOL : If anyone is interested in invigilating exams at St Andrew’s School, they should contact Mrs Lucy Maughan, Acting Deputy Head Teacher by October 21st. (Tel: 0141-582 0240; Email: gw10gallagherlucy@glow.ea.glasgow.sch.uk). Full training will be given by the SQA. Exam dates are as follows: January 9th -20th and April 24th – June 1st, 2023. You are not required to invigilate each day, unless you want to do this.
SPUC, UK, with reference to a recent BBC Poll, informs us that 15% of British women have experienced pressure to have an abortion that they did not want. SPUC is hosting three national conferences to come to a greater understanding of why women have an abortion. The Glasgow conference will be held on October 29th. RIGHT TO LIFE UK also informs us that, since the introduction of the Abortion Act in Britain in 1967, 10 million unborn children have been aborted, the ten millionth last Friday, Sept 23rd. They have launched a 2 minute video to mark the lives of these aborted children. It is available at https://righttolife.org.uk/thetenmillion. There will be a special bidding prayer each Sunday in October for this intention.
