Paul will undergo anything so that people may hear the Good News of God’s faithful love, and he calls us to be faithful to God as an expression of gratitude.

Gospel : Lk 17: 11-19
Jesus heals ten lepers and only one – a Samaritan – returns to thank him. Reflect: How grateful am I as a person? Am I aware of the many gifts I have been given and receive each day? Perhaps this week, just before going to sleep, we could take a moment to recall these gifts (food, shelter, clothing, family, friends, acts of kindness, etc) and say a simple Thank You to God.

THE ARCHBISHOP RECEIVES THE PALLIUM
St Andrew’s Cathedral, Saturday, Oct 22nd at 12 noon. The pallium is the symbol of an archbishop’s office and is a gift given and blessed by the Holy Father. All are invited.
WORLD YOUTH DAY 2023
The Archdiocesan Youth Office will lead the World Youth Day 2023 Pilgrimage. It is open to 16-35 year olds (16 as of Feb 2nd 2023). Venue: Lisbon. Provisional dates: 30th July – 8th Aug 2023. Information Evening, Mon, Oct 10th.

OCTOBER, THE MONTH OF THE ROSARY
The month of October is dedicated to the Rosary. People are encouraged to pray the Rosary during this month. Our Lady’s messages are always about praying for peace. So, when we pray the rosary, let’s pray it for peace in the world, particularly between Russia and Ukraine.

FEAST OF ST JUDE, OCTOBER 28TH
The feast of St Jude is celebrated in the Church on October 28th. Since this is a Friday, the parish will celebrate the feast after the Sunday Mass on October 30th. There will be special refreshments in the Hall after Mass, together with a tombola raffle, and a lucky dip for children. We are asking parishioners to donate gifts for the tombola and to place them in the baskets which will be at the back of the Church from next Sunday. They may also be given to Margaret McElroy. Thank you! Let’s make an effort to celebrate one of the patron saints of our parish.
JUSTICE and PEACE GROUP: THANK YOU
- For a grand total of £525 raised for the Pakistan Flood Appeal;
- for the boot-load of fruit, vegetables and pulses to make soup for the homeless at the Wayside Club;
- and for donations for the Ukraine Hub. We will leave a basket for this throughout the year.
PRAYER FOR PEACE
We continue to pray for peace between Russia and Ukraine, and that we may become people of peace.
AN APPEAL FOR HELP: CHURCH CLEANERS
If you can afford an hour of your time on a Thursday morning, your help will be greatly appreciated to keep our Church clean and tidy. With enough help this can be done in around an hour, starting after Mass. Thank you!
SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION
THANK YOU to the parents who attended the information evening on Thursday and who are here today for the Enrolment Mass for their children. We look forward to the Circle of Friends’ Meetings for children and parents on the scheduled dates, and we look forward to welcoming all children at Children’s Liturgy of the Word each Sunday.

Come along to the Sunday Café after Mass – to meet one another, particularly the children in our Sacramental programme and their families. Let’s strengthen our parish identity!

ST ANDREW’S SECONDARY SCHOOL : If anyone is interested in invigilating exams at St Andrew’s School, they should contact Mrs Lucy Maughan, Acting Deputy Head Teacher by October 21st. (Tel: 0141-582 0240; Email: gw10gallagherlucy@glow.ea.glasgow.sch.uk). Full training will be given by the SQA. Exam dates are as follows: January 9th -20th and April 24th – June 1st, 2023. You are not required to invigilate each day, unless you want to do this.

CARING NOT KILLING: Mr Liam McArthur will propose an Assisted Suicide Bill to the Scottish Parliament early in 2023. The Bishops of Scotland invite us to sign a petition to the Scottish Parliament against this bill, since it will put pressure on vulnerable people to end their own lives. There are posters in the porch which give further information, and there will be a petition in the Church porch for the next two Sundays. We invite you to reflect on the seriousness of this matter and to sign the petition. It must reach the Catholic Parliamentary Office by the beginning of November. Thank you.
VOCATIONS MASS: Glasgow University Chaplaincy will host a vigil for Vocations on 20th October in Turnbull Hall, beginning with Mass at 7:00 pm. See poster in porch.
