GOD’S WORD FOR US TODAY
Reading 1: 1 Kgs 19: 16,19-21(Elisha rose and followed Elijah)
On the instructions of God, the prophet Elijah calls Elisha to be his successor. Elisha makes an offering to God in thanksgiving for his call.
Resp. Ps. (15): You show your friends the path of life, give them the fullness of joy.
Reading 2: Gal 5:1,13-18 (Christ freed us and meant us to remain free)
Christian freedom does not mean being able to do whatever I want, but being able to live by the power of the Holy Spirit who is love.

Following the Way of Jesus can be difficult. We can get drawn off course by all sorts of good and less good distractions . Reflect: Do I sometimes become distracted from doing a good thing by something else that may be good but is also selfish?

WORLD MEETING OF FAMILIES (WMOF)
We continue to pray for the World Meeting of Families in Rome, asking God to bless couples and families and to strengthen them in what is a very special vocation.
SYNODALITY REPORT
Fr John Campbell (Sacred Heart and St Lucy’s Parish Cumbernauld) coordinated the work that parishes did on the topic of a synodal Church. He thanks all parishes for their contributions, and he gives us a flavour of the content.
All nine Deaneries in the Archdiocese made a submission to the synodal process. In addition to the parish contributions, material was also received from some individuals, from many primary and secondary schools, and from various groups within the diocese, such as the Deaf Community, SPRED, Una Voce, and others.
Fr John made some observations on content.
Many people expressed gratitude for the faith that they have received. They appreciate and care about their parishes and schools, and they want better, because they also care about those who do not seem to be enriched by the gift of faith.
People know that all is not well in the Church and in our parishes, and so they want change – not for the sake of change, but for the sake of the Gospel and its credibility.
They want an inclusive church, a dynamic church, an open church, and a church that is involved with the big questions that affect us, not hiding in a false notion of the past and arguing over minor things. There is a desire for development, for growth, for faith, for God; and the Church needs to harness this desire at the levels of parish, school, deanery, diocese and the universal church itself.
Fr John suggests that parishes may wish to re-visit their contributions and do some forward thinking, perhaps taking into consideration suggestions that have surfaced at parish level.
Deaneries may also find it helpful to revisit their submission and identify ways for parishes to work together in the area.
Many of those who synthesised the reports enjoyed the experience of laity and clergy working together, hopefully a sign of the future.

THE SICK AND DECEASED
We pray for the sick, that God will grant them strength and peace, and for those who care for them.
We pray for those who have died, that God will bring them to the fullness of eternal life. We remember in particular Mary Lamont who died recently and Alex White whose anniversary occurs at this time, June 24th.
PRAYER for PEACE: RUSSIA and UKRAINE
O Prince of Peace, once more we hear the guns of war and see the faces of frightened children. We pray for the people of Ukraine, that they may be granted peace; for the people of Russia, that they may demand peace; and for our own country, that we may be a positive part of peace-making in this world. O Prince of Peace, lead us from this dark time to a deeper understanding of the global human family, so that all may break bread together in the secure embrace of peace. Amen.

THANK YOU and HAPPY HOLIDAYS
Thank you to the staff and pupils of Our Lady of Peace Primary School for a beautiful end of year Mass last Tuesday. The liturgy was perfect for the end of the school year, and the Offertory Procession in particular was very meaningful. The children were active throughout and they sang and read beautifully.
We wish all of you, staff and pupils, a very happy holiday and hope that you return to school in August fully refreshed and ready for another school year.
