SEVENTH SUNDAY OF EASTER, YEAR C
GOD’S WORD FOR US TODAY
Reading 1: Acts 7: 55-60 (Stephen gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God)
Stephen was one of the first group of people appointed in the Church to minister to the poor. Like Jesus, people made false accusations against him, and he was the first Christian martyr. He died with the words of forgiveness on his lips.
Resp. Ps. (96): The Lord is King forevermore.
Reading 2: Rev 22: 12-14, 16-17, 20 (Come, Lord Jesus)
John describes a vision of Jesus promising to come again and inviting everyone to quench their thirst on the water of life which he freely gives. With the Church we pray, Come, Lord Jesus.
Gospel Acc: Alleluia . . . . . I will not leave you orphans, says the Lord; I will come back to you, and your hearts will be full of joy. Alleluia . . . .
Gospel : Jn 17: 20-26 (Father, may they be one in us)
This passage expresses Jesus’ dying wish for his followers: He wants them to be ‘one’ with one another as he is ‘one’ with the Father; and he wants them to love with God’s kind of love that they have experienced in him. Reflect: As Jesus was facing his own death, he turned to the Father and prayed for each one of us. How does it feel to know that Jesus is praying for us?

ARCHDIOCESE
BRECBANNOCH PILGRIMAGE:
The first Brecbannoch Pilgrimage, a 50-mile walk from Oban to Iona, and dedicated to prayer for the renewal of faith in Scotland, will take place 11-13 June 2022. The pilgrims will carry with them relics of St Columba, St Andrew and St Margaret, asking their protection over the Church in Scotland. NOVENA TO THE HOLY SPIRIT
Next Sunday is the feast of Pentecost, the day when the apostles received the gift of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit transformed the apostles: they were in hiding while they were waiting and praying for this gift, afraid that what happened to Jesus would happen to them, if they talked publicly about him; but on receiving the Holy Spirit they immediately did this: openly teaching about Jesus to whoever would listen.
The Holy Spirit inspires us and gives us courage to do the right thing, to live in the right kind of way. Perhaps there’s an area of your life that needs transformation, that needs courage. Let this be what you pray for as you prepare for this great feast.
There are different options, with three possibilities below.
- Say the words Come Holy Spirit slowly and silently in your heart each day till Pentecost.
- Say or sing the words of the hymn Come Holy Ghost, Creator, Come, if you know them.
- or you may say the following traditional prayer:
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful, and kindle in us the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and we shall be created, and you shall renew the face of the earth.
O God, who instructed the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant that, by the gift of the same Holy Spirit, we may be truly wise, and ever rejoice in your consolation, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

40 HOURS ADORATION
Thank you to those who were able to watch during the 40 hours of adoration.
FIRST SACRAMENTS
The Circle of Friends for the children preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation began last Thursday and will continue for the next three weeks. Please keep the children and their families in your prayers.
Congratulations to Chris and Christopher Boina who will make their First Holy Communion at today’s Mass. We welcome them into the fullness of communion with the Church through our parish community. Please pray for Chris, Christopher and their family.
CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD
We welcome to Children’s Liturgy of the Word all children, especially those who have been involved in the Sacramental Preparation Programmes this year.
LOURDES PILGRIMAGE
We pray for those who left for Lourdes at 7:00 a.m. this morning, that they will have a safe journey and a fruitful pilgrimage. We ask them to remember us and our intentions in their prayers at the Grotto.
THE SICK AND DECEASED
We continue to pray for the sick members of our parish that God will grant them strength and peace; and for those who have died, especially Rina Facenna who died recently, that God will bring them to the fullness of eternal life.
PRAYER for PEACE BETWEEN RUSSIA and UKRAINE
O Prince of Peace, once more we hear the guns of war and see the faces of frightened children. We pray for the people of Ukraine, that they may be granted peace; for the people of Russia, that they may demand peace; and for our own country, that we may be a positive part of peace-making in this world. O Prince of Peace, lead us from this dark time to a deeper understanding of the global human family, so that all may break bread together in the secure embrace of peace. Amen.
COMMUNITY HUB FOR UKRAINIAN REFUGEES
The Justice and Peace Group will deliver to the hub all items left in the baskets at the back of the church. We have been advised that, in the interests of health and safety, all items must be new. The following will be gratefully received:
- Toiletries: toothpaste, toothbrushes, body wash, face cloths, hairbrushes and combs, toilet bags
- Towels, duvet covers, sheets, pillowcases;
- Nightwear and underwear: Pyjamas, pants;
- Clothes: Joggies, T-shirts, fleece tops;
- Anything practical which may help the host families to make the refugees feel welcome in Glasgow.
