SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER, YEAR C
GOD’S WORD FOR US TODAY
Reading 1: Acts 15:1-2,22-29 (It has been decided by the Holy Spirit and ourselves not to saddle you with any burden beyond these essentials)
As the Church spreads in the Roman Empire and meets new situations, the leaders decide and ask of new Christians only what is absolutely necessary to be a follower of Jesus: acceptance of Jesus’s Way of Life rather than also sticking to the Jewish law.
Resp. Ps. (66): Let the peoples praise you, O God; let all of them praise you, O God.
Reading 2: Rev 21:10-14,22-23 (He showed me the holy city coming down out of heaven)
John shares another vision. He sees a renewed Jerusalem, built on the 12 apostles, and radiating God’s glory: Jerusalem is the Temple of God. There is no need for an earthly Temple.
Gospel Acc: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia.
Jesus said: ‘If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we shall come to him. Alleluia . . . . . . . !
Gospel : Jn 14:23-29 (The Holy Spirit will remind you of all I have said to you.)
Jesus prepares the disciples for his return to the Father. He assures them of his continued presence – within them, as they accept and live his word; and he tells them that Holy Spirit will remind them of all that he did and said. By living his word, they will enjoy his peace. Reflect: Identify an occasion when you experienced deep inner peace simply by doing the right thing.

ARCHDIOCESE
BRECBANNOCH PILGRIMAGE:
The first Brecbannoch Pilgrimage, a 50-mile walk from Oban to Iona, and dedicated to prayer for the renewal of faith in Scotland, will take place 11-13 June 2022. The pilgrims will carry with them relics of St Columba, St Andrew and St Margaret, asking their protection over the Church in Scotland. ASCENSION and NOVENA TO THE HOLY SPIRIT
Thursday is the Feast of the Ascension and a Holyday of obligation. It celebrates Jesus’ return to his Father 40 days after Easter. After the Ascension, the apostles spent 9 days in prayer as they waited for the gift of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, 50 days after Easter. It is a tradition in the Church that all Christians do what the apostles did, and make a novena (nine days) of prayer to the Holy Spirit as we prepare for Pentecost.
You may simply say the words Come Holy Spirit slowly and silently in your heart each day till Pentecost; or you might say or sing the words of the hymn Come Holy Ghost, Creator, Come, if you know them; or you may say the following traditional prayer:
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful, and kindle in us the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and we shall be created, and you shall renew the face of the earth.
O God, who instructed the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant that, by the gift of the same Holy Spirit, we may be truly wise, and ever rejoice in your consolation, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

PARISH
40 HOURS ADORATION
Each parish has the privilege of 40 Hours of Adoration before the Blessed Sacrament each year. Ours begins today at the end of Mass, and continues until 6:00 pm on Tuesday. It will close with Benediction. If you are able to watch for an hour or part of an hour, please sign the sheet at the back of church. We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday evening to bring Exposition to a close.
FIRST SACRAMENTS
Let us pray in thanksgiving for the children who have made their First Communion, that they will grow in their love of Jesus through Sunday Mass, Children’s Liturgy of the Word and their family life. Let us pray for the children preparing for Confirmation. Their Circle of Friends begins this Thursday at 6:30 pm in the Community Centre.
CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD
We welcome to Children’s Liturgy of the Word all children, especially those in Sacramental Preparation Programmes this year.
LOURDES PILGRIMAGE
If anyone would like a prayer petition to go to Lourdes, please place it in the basket on Our Lady’s altar before next Saturday evening. Do not enclose any money. The pilgrimage departs next Sunday at 7:00 am.
THE SICK AND DECEASED
We continue to pray for the sick members of our parish that God will grant them strength and peace; and for those who have died, especially Fr. Andrew Coleman (Paisley Diocese) who died recently, that God will bring them to the fullness of eternal life.
PRAYER for PEACE BETWEEN RUSSIA and UKRAINE
O Prince of Peace, once more we hear the guns of war and see the faces of frightened children. We pray for the people of Ukraine, that they may be granted peace; for the people of Russia, that they may demand peace; and for our own country, that we may be a positive part of peace-making in this world. O Prince of Peace, lead us from this dark time to a deeper understanding of the global human family, so that all may break bread together in the secure embrace of peace. Amen.
JUSTICE AND PEACE GROUP: COMMUNITY HUB FOR UKRAINIAN REFUGEES
Last week we told you about a community hub in St. Michael’s parish for Ukrainian refugees. The hub is open on Fridays and Saturdays, from 1:00 pm till 6:00 pm.
Having consulted Fr. Francis, the Justice and Peace Group has left baskets at the back of the church to receive any items that parishioners may wish to donate. The J&P Group will deliver all donations to the hub. We have been advised that. for health and safety reasons. all items must be new. The following will be welcome:
Toiletries: toothpaste, toothbrushes, body wash, face cloths, hairbrushes and combs;
Toilet bags, to help make up small bags of the above;
Towels
Bedding: Duvet covers, sheets, pillowcases;
Nightwear and underwear: Pyjamas, pants;
Clothes: Joggies, T-shirts, fleece tops;
Anything practical which may help the host families to make the refugees feel welcome in Glasgow.

SPECIAL INTENTIONS FOR MAY
In solidarity with Right To Life UK, we continue to pray for pregnant women, that they will find all the support that they need during their pregnancy from family, friends and church communities.
In solidarity with Mary’s Meals, we continue to pray in gratitude for all that Mary’s Meals does to educate and feed hungry children in poor and war-torn countries, and in petition that their work will continue to flourish with the support of current and new volunteers.
