FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT (YEAR C)
GOD’S WORD FOR US TODAY
Entrance: Have mercy, O Lord. Have mercy, O Lord. Have mercy, because we have sinned.
Reading 1: Deuteronomy 26: 4-10
God’s people tell their story, noticing how God was present in their life, leading them to the Promised Land. They offer God gifts of thanksgiving.
Resp. to Psalm 90: Hymn Book, 759
Reading 2: Rom 10: 8-13
Like God’s people in the Old Testament, we also have our story: our faith in Jesus will bring us to the fullness of life, our Promised Land.
Gospel Acc: Praise to you, O Christ, King of eternal glory ( 2)
Not by bread alone do we live, but by every word from the mouth of God. Not by bread alone, not by bread alone, not by bread alone.
Praise to you, O Christ, King of eternal glory (x2)
Gospel : Lk 4: 1-13 (Jesus is tempted by Satan in the Wilderness)
Satan tries to undermine Jesus’ relationship with the Father, by tempting him to rely on himself, rather than on God. But Jesus replies strongly with quotations from Scripture. Reflect: What part of Scripture might you turn to for support in times of need or when you are tempted?

PARISH
LENT PROJECT (Justice and Peace group)
The situation in Afghanistan is worsening, and is now off the radar because of the desperate conflict in Ukraine. This year’s Lent Project will focus on three serious areas of need in Afghanistan:
- Medical aid for 1 million children at risk of dying from malnutrition. £10 will provide a child with treatment for 3 weeks.
- Blankets for displaced families living in sub-zero temperatures. £50 will provide blankets for 10 people.
- Food aid for some of the 95% of the population who do not have enough to eat. £100 will provide a family with supplies for 3 months.
There will be boxes at the back of the Church each Sunday of Lent to allow you, if you wish, to support these needs. We will post the results weekly.
HOLY HOUR FOR PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST
There will be a Holy Hour for peace in the Middle East on Wednesday, March 16th, starting at 6:30 pm.
PRAYER for PEACE
O Prince of Peace, once more we hear the guns of war and see the faces of frightened children. We pray for the people of Ukraine, that they may be granted peace; for the people of Russia, that they may demand peace; and for our own country, that we may be a positive part of peace-making in this world. O Prince of Peace, lead us from this dark time to a deeper understanding of the global human family, so that all may break bread together in the secure embrace of peace. Amen.
ST JUDE’S LOURDES PILGRIMAGE (May 29-Jun 5)
There are vacancies on this pilgrimage. If interested, please contact Margaret McElroy. Cost: £380.00.
THE SICK AND DECEASED
We continue to pray for the sick members of our parish that God will grant them strength and peace; and for those who have died, that God will bring them to the fullness of eternal life.
