Fourth Sunday of the Year B – Green
28th JANUARY 2024 – (vol.2, 745)
“Celibacy does not make sense unless the values of the Kingdom of God fill the celibates’s whole horizon.” Dom Henry Wansbrough.
| R 1 | Deuteronomy 18:15-20 | I will raise up a prophet and put my words into his mouth. |
| Psalm | 94(95):1-2,6-9 | Listen to the voice of God, harden not your hearts |
| R 2 | 1 Corinthians 7:32-35 | Give your undivided attention to the Lord. |
| Alleluia | Acclaim the Gospel | Alleluia, alleluia! Blessed are you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for revealing the mysteries of the kingdom to children. Alleluia! |
| Gospel | Mark 1:21-28 | ‘We have found the Messiah’ |
| REFLECTION | ||
| Moses advises his hearers that God will raise up, from their very midst, a prophet for his people. Paul suggests that God is better served by the unmarried who can serve Him exclusively. Mark paints a new Jesus , a new type of preacher, teaching not just in words but also in actions. Mark records Jesus first miracle of his gospel in Capernaum. Jesus strikingly casts out an unclean spirit, in, of all places, the synagogue. The words and his actions of the Messiah are consistent, unlike those of the scribes who were never short of heaping demands and criticism on others. Inspired by the words or actions of someone?. Who had a great and good effect on your life? You can still thank them, even now with so many years gone by. You can try saying prayers for them, and honouring their memory and their faith, as fishers of men. | ||
