| REFLECTION |
| Isaiah appoints Eliakim as master of the King’s palace in Jerusalem. He invests him with authority, investing him with the symbol of that authority, a heavy key, to wear round his neck. Eliakim will have control of all that goes on there. Paul simply cannot understand God’s plans and the stubbornness of the Jews in refusing their Messiah, Jesus, but, throwing up his hands in prayer, praises God’s wisdom, which none of us can ever truly understand. God is mighty in power, clothed in glory, lit in wisdom. Matthew sets the scene in Caesarea Philippi, near the pagan oracle, pressing his apostles to tell him who they think he is. Peter is stunned by his understanding and gives his answer. In return Jesus renames Peter, making Peter his own (a foreshadow of Baptism). Peter is gifted the keys to the kingdom, not physical ones such as Isaiah gave to Eliakim, but with awesome greater power and responsibility, guiding the church in its early years. How could you answer Jesus’ question, “But who do you say that I am?” How does Jesus guide you, as, like everyone else, you often stumble through a seemingly broken life? |

2023 DIOCESAN MARRIAGE PREPARATION DAYS
The next preparation day for those approaching matrimony will be held soon, next month, on Saturday 16th September 2023 at St Dominic’s, Bishopbriggs. For the coming year, both preparation days will be held in Christ the King, King’s Park, the first on Saturday 24th February 2024, and the second on Saturday 1st June 2024.
