GOD’S WORD FOR US TODAY
Reading 1: Acts 5:27-32,40-41 (We are witnesses to all this, we and the Holy Spirit)
The apostles are telling the people about Jesus’ resurrection. They are ordered to stop by the religious leaders, but, like Jesus, they refuse to be silenced. They continue fearlessly to proclaim Jesus and his resurrection to the people.
Resp. Ps. (29): I praise you, O Lord, bless you, O Lord. You have rescued me.
Reading 2: Rev 5:11-14 (Glory to the Lamb who was slain)
This passage transports us to heaven where everyone and everything bows down in gratitude and praise before the Father and Jesus, the slain Lamb, now risen and reunited with the Father.
Gospel Acc: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia.
Lord Jesus, explain the scriptures to us. Make our hearts burn within us as you talk to us. Alleluia . . . . . . .
Gospel : Jn 21:1-19 (Breakfast on the beach with the Risen Jesus)
This is a delightful story of the Risen Jesus cooking breakfast for his friends and making two things clear: he has nothing but love for them – and us – though they probably felt a bit ashamed, having abandoned him the previous week; and he totally trusts them – and us – to continue his work. Reflect: Imagine you are with the disciples: How does it feel to be sitting with Jesus after his resurrection, to experience his love, and then to be entrusted with continuing his work?

PRAYER for PEACE BETWEEN RUSSIA and UKRAINE
O Prince of Peace, once more we hear the guns of war and see the faces of frightened children. We pray for the people of Ukraine, that they may be granted peace; for the people of Russia, that they may demand peace; and for our own country, that we may be a positive part of peace-making in this world. O Prince of Peace, lead us from this dark time to a deeper understanding of the global human family, so that all may break bread together in the secure embrace of peace. Amen.
LOURDES PILGRIMAGE
Through the sale of football cards, Helen Marks has raised £106.00 to support the Lourdes Pilgrimage, and thanks everyone who contributed.
SAINTS OF THE WEEK
Monday, May 2nd: St Athanasius. Athanasius became Bishop of Alexandria, Egypt, in 328 AD. He spent much of his time defending the divinity of Jesus and met great opposition. He was forced out of his diocese several times by his opponents.
Tuesday, May 3rd, Saints Philip and James. These were two of the twelve apostles, two of those present in today’s Gospel, eating breakfast with Jesus on the seashore after his resurrection. St. Philip spread the faith in Greece and Turkey, where he was martyred in 80 AD. St James was Bishop of Jerusalem where he was martyred in 62 AD. He wrote the Letter of St James in the New Testament. It contains very practical advice on living the Christian life.

This year Mary’s Meals celebrates 20 years of their life-changing work for hungry children. They began feeding 200 children in one country in 2002, and now feed more than 2.2 million children each school day in 20 countries.
Since the organisation is named after Our Lady, they ask us to pray each day this month for the children who receive Mary’s Meals; for all who support them around the world with ‘little acts of love’; for the children who are still waiting for Mary’s Meals to reach them; and for more people to join their global mission with ‘little acts of love,’ thus helping it to grow.
They suggest the following prayer:
Mary, our Mother, we entrust you to intercede for this work carried out in your name:
- that children throughout the world will see their lives transformed through the promise of a daily meal at school;
- that our volunteers across the globe on whom this work depends will be filled with hope and strength;
- that new seeds of possibility will be planted, and more people will discover their place in the Mary’s Meals family.
