6th Sunday of Easter (YEAR A)
14th MAY 2023 – WHITE
The Holy Spirit, the Paraclete will be your great support once I leave.
| R 1 | Acts 8:5-8, 14-17 | They laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit |
| Psalm | 99 | Cry out with joy to the Lord all the earth; serve the Lord with gladness. Come before him singing for Joy, singing for joy. |
| R 2 | 1 Peter 3:15-18 | In the body he was put to death, in the spirit he was raised to life. |
| Alleluia | Acclaim the Gospel | Jesus said, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him and we shall come to him.” |
| Gospel | Jn 14:15-21 | I shall ask the Father and he will give you another Advocate. |
| REFLECTION |
| As the church fled persecution in Jerusalem the Good News was first shared with the Samaritans to the north, when Philip preached to them and baptised them. The full gifts of the Holy Spirit were however only theirs when the Apostles laid hands on them. Similarly, in the present day, the priest or deacon baptises, but it is the bishop who bestows Confirmation. Philip advises us all to keep our temper, like Jesus, when abused and persecuted, to show respect to our opponents. We do not do this alone for Jesus promises that the Paraclete, the ‘Divine Supporter’, the Holy Spirit, will be with his followers after He ascends to heaven. How willing are we to share our faith? How eager are we to embrace the helpful presence of the Holy Spirit in our everyday life.? |

MAY IS THE MONTH TO HONOUR MARY
Saying the Rosary is commonly the easiest and best way to do so. The Holy Spirit will inspire us. As Mary points us to Jesus. She advises us to do what He tells us to.
